RUMMAGE SALE AT THE CENTER The Monroe Center for Healthy Aging at 15275 S. Dixie Hwy., Monroe is holding a rummage sale on Thursday, August 14 from 7 am to 4 pm, and Friday, August 15 from 7 am to 2 pm. The public is welcome to rummage through household items, clothing, books, and more.
Cancer Memorial Garden Monroe Charter Township is opening a completely handicap accessible new baseball park behind the township hall at 4925 Dunbar Road, where the Monroe Center Cancer Connection will create a Cancer Memorial Garden. Flowers are donated by various greenhouses in Monroe. The public is invited to come out with families on August 17 from 1 to 7 pm to help plant and buy memorial flowers to benefit the Monroe Center Cancer Connection and the Red Cross Youth Group.
RIB NIGHT FEATURES ELVIS TUNES The Monroe Center for Healthy Aging is serving their Rib Night Dinner on August 21st at 6 p.m. Bruce Freimark will play all Elvis songs after dinner, with mandolin accompaniment from Mike Ziethlow. The Over-90’s Party wants you! The Monroe Center for Healthy Aging invites the public to join in celebrating the great age of 90 years and over on August 22 at 11 am. Attendees 90 years old and better and their escort will enjoy a complimentary dinner, sponsored by area nursing and assisted living residences. Accordion entertainment from Bonnie & Oscar, birthday décor, and door prizes will be featured. The menu will include fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, ice cream and birthday cake. Others are invited to attend at the regular lunchtime expense of $5.04/members and $6.36/guests. Those wishing to attend should call 241-0404.
health odyssey at the monroe center for healthy aging On Thursday, August 28th, at 11 a.m., The Monroe Center for Healthy Aging will offer a complimentary lunch sponsored by Pfizer, Inc. and Mercy Memorial Hospital. Patty Pollock, Cardiovascular, Pulmonary, and Respiratory Manager for Mercy Memorial Hospital System, will present information and demonstrate Spirometry Screenings. These are lung function tests that measure airflow and lung volume. The test can identify early onset of COPD, which includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis.
