ALL SUPPORT GROUPS ARE DROP-IN, SO FEEL FREE TO COME............

..........Caregiver Support - You Help Someone, Who Helps You?

Spouses, children, friends who care for someone unable to care for themselves offer a great deal of comfort and provision to their loved one, often at their own expense emotionally and socially. In addition, caregivers may or may not know of equipment and services that can alleviate some of their support concerns.

It just takes a phone call to get help when you are at your wit’s end - let our supports coordinators help you figure out elder services, appointments, insurance/ finan-cial situations, and relief services by arranging the best help! Call Jackie or Amy at 241-0404 !

.............Hearing Impaired Support

This support group meets on Mondays at 10 a.m. We socialize, discuss different hearing issues, and usually end up Wii bowling!

On Wednesday, July 16 at 10 am a representative from "Hear Clear" will come and do hearing checks and hearing aid checks in the conference room.

And we now have the Sorenson Video Relay system installed at the Monroe Center! Now all our deaf and hard of hearing persons can use this free. The deaf can sign to each other through their televisions, or an interpreter takes your call and you can indicate to her what you want to say to the person on the line. If you don’t want to rely on someone else to make a phone call for you, come into the center and learn how to use this VRS Service on Mondays from 10 to 2 pm and Robyn Anderson will show you how to use this wonderful service.

.............Vision-Impaired Support

Join a group of caring people in a friendly setting to discover ways to handle different situations the vision-impaired person encounters.

The group often discusses new vision aids, braille equipment, transportation issues, and local help.

This group also have a volunteer, Susan List, who reads the monthly newsletter to tape.

The group meets on the first Thursday of the month at 10:00 a.m. in the conference room. Please ask at the front desk if you need assistance and we will be glad to help.

You are also welcome to "do lunch" afterward at the SunBrella Café.

.........Loss of Loved One
Pathways to New Beginnings is a community-based support group for senior adults experiencing the loss of a loved one. The group meets the second Monday of the month at 12:30 p.m. at the Monroe Center. Many in the group meet at 11:30 a.m. to have lunch first and socialize. The group is facilitated by Bonnie Finzel-Doster and is also sponsored by Hospice of Mercy-Memorial.
Group members benefit by:

  • Sharing experiences with others who are also coping with loss.
  • Learning the stages of grieving.
  • Learning effective coping and adjustment strategies.
  • Instilling feelings of hope and a sense of on-going purpose in life.
  •

    ..............Comfort and Connection
The Sunshine Connection makes sure people stay connected & comforted! These caring volunteers make visits, call with reassuring support, and send out cards to our members and others who are ailing or bereaved. What a sense of comfort for those who have become ill, need an extra contact during the week, or have recently lost a loved one. Please let us know if we can be of service to you or a loved one. Volunteers are also welcome to join the Sunshine Group!
