Volunteer & Donor Opportunities

"Age to me means nothing. I can't get old; I'm working. " ~ George Burns

Engage as a VOLUNTEER!

Stepping out of your comfort zone is always two things -- scary and worth it. You won’t be sorry. Volunteering can be a worthwhile experience and can change the way you look at yourself and the world.

Significant research, such as the "Mozart Effect," supports the theory that actively participating in anything can have a positive impact on people’s overall well-being and cognitive function.

"Volunteers are still needed to work in the Gift Shop,  Bingo, and Data Entry. Program.  If you are interested, please contact Margaret at (734) 241-0404 ex: 227."

THE IMPORTANCE OF A "SUNSHINE" CALL

In Jacksonville Florida, a volunteer was late in making her daily call to an elderly person living alone. The volunteer received a call from the elderly person, who said, "You didn’t call this morning." The volunteer replied, "I was about to call." To this the elderly person replied, "Then I will hang up and let you call back, because if you don’t call the PHONE WON’T RING TODAY."

PLEASE CONSIDER VOLUNTEERING WITH SUNSHINE CALLS!

(Story submitted by Reverend Gene Parks)

    The RSVP Force
We try to register all of our volunteers with the RSVP (retired senior volunteer program) in Monroe County. This program pays for some transportation and meal costs for seniors who volunteer. Seniors who register keep the program viable and the volunteer force active! To register, call 734-241-8181 or get a form from our front desk.

Donations are also always welcome to support our programming that keeps seniors active and independent. General contributions or funds designated for a specific purpose, in memory of a special person, or in-kind donations are gratefully accepted. We are a nonprofit 501 C3 organization and all donations are tax deductible. Please call us if you have any questions.
